A NEW-LOOK and state-of-the-art Waterworld was unveiled to the people of Prudhoe this week.

Work began on the £650,000 refurbishment of the leisure centre’s gym and fitness studio in May this year.

Improvements include a larger and renovated gym with 55 pieces of state-of-the-art Technogym equipment.

There is also a multi-purpose studio for cycling, yoga, pilates, children’s parties and a creche.

As well as the new fitness equipment, the centre now has 20 new Keiser bikes for studio cycling.

A capital investment scheme from Northumberland County Council enabled Active Northumberland to invest in the renovation work.

And on Monday, the centre was officially reopened by county councillors Val Tyler, portfolio holder for community infrastructure and culture and Tony Reid, member for Prudhoe South.

Speaking at the event, Coun. Tyler said: “Helping local people stay fit and healthy is one of our most important priorities, and the centre has been transformed to make health and fitness enjoyable and accessible for everyone.

“The work is part of a £40m investment by Northumberland County Council and Active Northumberland to improve our leisure offer across the county.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who worked so hard to bring the project to life.

“I am confident that people will enjoy the new Prudhoe Waterworld for many years to come.”

Centre manager Richard Anderson said: “Prudhoe Waterworld is now a leisure centre fit for the 21st Century.

“The new gym in particular has really caught the imagination of local people, and membership enquiries have spiked since we opened the doors.”
