The work of members of the community group has been recognised in the national Meadow Makers competition.
Alison Fisher, biodiversity leader at the orchard said: “We now have many visitors to the orchard and try to pass on some of our experience. We hope to continue to develop the meadow with our manager Tom Martin’s expertise and our many volunteers to create a place buzzing with activity which will help to stimulate the imagination and enthusiasm of the school children.”
The orchard is situated in the grounds of Wylam First School. Headteacher, Lynn Johnston, said: “Wylam School is thrilled that our community orchard has won a national award.”
