A PRUDHOE man who had taken cocaine and then injured a pensioner after crashing into her car, has been sentenced to 20 months in jail.

Jon Crowe (26) of Cheviot View, Prudhoe , pleaded guilty last month to causing serious injury by dangerous driving; driving with drugs in his system and failing to stop after an accident.

He appeared at Newcastle Crown Court on Monday this week for sentence and was also banned from driving for three years following the crash in May.

The Court heard Crowe was driving at 60mph in a 30mph zone and had cocaine in his system.

Crowe lost control of a VW Golf and collided with the pensioner's Vauxhall on Station Road, Prudhoe.

He then left the scene on foot, but handed himself in to police the next day and made a full confession.

The pensioner suffered bleeding on the skull, four broken ribs and a broken finger.
