A CARAVAN company is proposing to pitch up in Prudhoe, with plans to build a new headquarters in the town.

Camper North East has submitted a planning application for a camper van and caravan sales and storage facility in Low Prudhoe.

The company is proposing to move the business from Birtley to the former Pointings site.

The plot, which is just under two acres, would feature an area to display around 22 camper vans and caravans for sale.

A separate secure area would also be created to store approximately 63 caravans and camper vans.

Under the plans, the entire site would be covered by hard surfacing and surrounded by palisade security fencing.

A row of conifer trees would be uprooted to make way for the works

And the existing site access along a private access road from Princess Way would be retained.

Camper NE said the “enlarged facility” would create more opportunities for employment and benefit the economy of the area.

And the application has won the approval of Prudhoe Town Council, which considered the plans at the meeting of the planning and works committee last Wednesday.

Councillors agreed to support the application but raised a number of concerns.

They noted that screening of trees should be raised to separate the site from nearby houses and that the proposed workshop would be better sited on the opposite side of the development site, further from residential development.

Concern was also raised regarding increased traffic around the site and stated that the business should not be open 24 hours a day or permanently lit.
