COUNCILLORS in Prudhoe will push to release a document which looks at the feasibility of the town's beloved youth centre.

The feasibility study, which looked into the viability of the East Centre building, was jointly funded by Prudhoe Town Council and Prudhoe Community Partnership last May.

A report on its findings, put together by a consultant, was received under a confidential item on the agenda at an extraordinary meeting of Prudhoe Town Council on January 10.

This was said to be due to the fact it contained sensitive financial information. But in an email from Prudhoe Community Partnership to Prudhoe Town Council, George Hepburn, chairman of Prudhoe Community Partnership, said the partnership was not averse to publishing it if members of the council raised the issue.

And councillors at last week's meeting of Prudhoe Town Council agreed that the study should be released into the public domain.

Coun. Yvonne Ritchie thanked other councillors for supporting the move to make it public, stating that the transparency and accountability of the council was of utmost importance.

Councillors agreed to arrange a meeting with Prudhoe Community Partnership, at which they would inform them of their decision to release the study before doing so.

Following the January 10 meeting, it was agreed that Prudhoe Town Council would request that Northumberland County Council transfer the East Centre to the town council. Chairman of the town council Coun. Gerry Price said it was believed that this would help secure its future.

This process is ongoing and the council is now required to complete a form for a community asset transfer.
