WALKERS in Prudhoe will notice some improvements to a popular walking route after the replacement of four footbridges.

Stanley Burn Woods (pictured), located in the old Prudhoe hospital grounds, is often referred to as the Seven Bridge Walk.

Four of the 11 footbridges in the woods have now been replaced, with funding from the council’s local transport plan programme, with work carried out by local contractors.

Coun. Glen Sanderson, portfolio holder for environment and local services at Northumberland County Council, said: “The replacement of the footbridges at Stanley Burn Woods is fantastic news for the local area as they had started to deteriorate quite significantly.”

With additional funding from the council’s countryside team budget, a section of the footpath has also been repaired and steps have been constructed to make the path easier for people to walk along.

He added: “I am delighted to see these improvements in my ward. These new bridges and footpath improvements will allow many more people to enjoy this hidden gem.”
