THE STREETS of Prudhoe will be awash with colourful blooms as a wave of hanging baskets take root.

For dozens had the opportunity to build their own miniature garden in the form of a hanging basket at Prudhoe Community Allotment.

The allotment, on Redwell Court, held a hanging basket day as part of Prudhoe Community Arts Week.

Visitors were able to purchase hanging baskets, make up their own and harvest some valuable gardening advice from the volunteer team.

Established in 2000, Prudhoe Community Allotment was designed for gardeners with reduced mobility and phsyical disabilities.

It was officially opened in 2006 by the Duke of Northumberland and has since received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Working alongside supported members is a dedicated team of volunteers.
