Steven J R Lawson received the Award of Merit at the IndieFEST for his film Freddy’s Nightmare, which is based on the Nightmare on Elm Street series and centres on the iconic Freddy Krueger character.
The online awards celebrate film makers from around the world, recognising talented directors, producers, actors and creative teams.
The award comes after he was shortlisted earlier this year as one of four finalists in the best director category of the Fan Film awards held in California, also for Freddy’s Nightmare.
Steven (35) found out he had won the Award of Merit last week.
He said: “It’s still quite a lot to take in, but I feel over the moon and I’m excited to see where it’s going to take me next.
“I don’t know anything for definite, but I certainly hope this will help me fulfil my dream of becoming a professional film maker.”
Steven is already working on a new film – a darker and more serious take on the popular fantasy film Masters of the Universe.
Freddy’s Nightmare can be viewed on YouTube.
