HOMEOWNERS on a Prudhoe estate are being advised to form a residents’ group after claims that they have experienced over two years of problems with their new-build properties.

One resident on the Humbles Wood estate hung a sign on scaffolding surrounding his house this week, to vent his feelings against developer Gentoo.

Michael Mayfield, who moved into his new home in December 2015, said the scaffolding was erected in September due to problems with the stones on his roof not being properly fixed.

The scaffolding was taken down over Christmas and put back up in February, but he said the work had still not been carried out.

Other residents have reportedly previously experienced sewerage running down their walls due to holes in their pipes, while some homes have needed several repairs.

“When you move into a new house you don’t expect to come in and have to have lots of repairs, and you expect it to be safe,” said Mr Mayfield.

Other issues Mr Mayfield said he had reported included 15 visits to fix the boiler, a corner sink for the wrong corner fitted in the downstairs toilet, which had now been replaced and uneven foundations for the garage causing it to be slanted.

After concerns were raised to the local county councillor for the area, Coun. Gordon Stewart, he has advised residents to form a residents’ association to look at the issues together and work with Gentoo, which he said he was willing to support them with.

David Thomas, technical director at Gentoo Homes, said: “We have been working closely with the customer since they moved into the property in November 2015. There are a small number of ongoing problems to resolve, namely remedial works to repair water tables to the roof. Unfortunately, there have been a number of delays to this repair work, including a delay for bespoke replacement water tables, which has therefore led to scaffolding being erected for longer than we would expect.

“We are disappointed to hear about any customer dissatisfaction and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
