Adderlane Academy was given the gold mark for its commitment to the delivery of competitive sport.
Headteacher Emma Potts said the award not only marks the school’s excellent PE provision, but its commitment to delivering days and festivals where children can do sport competitively and engage with other youngsters.
“We do things like rugby, athletics and football which are traditional sports, but also these events give them a chance to do things like tag rugby or fencing, which is a bit less run of the mill.
“As a Trust we organised a big Try Something Different Day where children from across our Trust (WISE Academies) who don’t ordinarily choose PE as their favourite subject were encouraged to find that one sport they engage with.
“It’s the first time we have applied for it, so we were thrilled to get the gold mark,” she added.
