AN ARTIST behind one of the snowdog sculptures which were once dotted around the North-East has visited children at a Prudhoe school to give them an insight into her work.

The Great North Snowdog trail saw 61 individually-decorated sculptures take up residence at spots around the North-East in 2016 to raise money for St Oswald’s Hospice in Gosforth.

One of the giant pooches, Gingerbread Dog, which was designed by artist Sarah Jane Szikora, has since been adopted by St Matthew’s Primary School in Prudhoe.

And Sarah Jane paid a visit to the school and their snowdog before term ended to do some work with children around using food in artwork.

She did a presentation for the classes in the school to explain how gingerbread inspired her work, before holding workshops with the children where they had the chance to design their own gingerbread character.

Art co-ordinator at the school Kirsten Curry said: “The children really enjoyed it, they were very enthusiastic. Next year, we are planning to run an after school art club inspired by her work.”
