The people of Stamfordham gave Britain’s Got Talent a run for its money, attracting huge crowds for their very own talent show.

Stamfordham’s Got Talent brought more than 150 people of all ages together at the village hall to witness spectacular performances by talented individuals and groups.

More than 20 acts took part, showcasing everything from singing from the school choir, karate demonstrations, Irish dancing, keyboard playing, comedy sketches and talks about village history.

St Mary’s Church and Friends of Stamfordham Play Park organised the event as part of their fund-raising for separate projects.

The Rev. Rachel Scheffer, a committee member for Friends of Stamfordham Play Park and vicar for Stamfordham and Matfen said: “To experience the village living together and doing things together is lovely.

“We didn’t want to announce a winner, as it was nice for everyone just to be taking part, but some people held up paper plates with numbers on, which was quite funny.

“The youngest person there was about four and the oldest was in their 90s; everyone helped out and the atmosphere was brilliant.”

The total amount raised from the event, through a collection basket at the door and raffles on the night, has not yet been totalled up, but the funds will be split between the two organising groups.

Half of the funds will go towards the transformation of Stamfordham Play Park, which it is hoped will be completed in the Spring.

And St Mary’s Church will receive money towards a £160,000 renovation project, which includes a much-needed toilet, a new heating system and some urgent repairs to the tower and main church building.
