THE death of a Ponteland man has sparked a wave of kind-hearted donations to support his partner and children.

Craig Smith (39) went missing after last being seen next to Blaydon Rugby Club at 11pm on Friday, September 30.

After police launched an appeal for information on his whereabouts, fire and rescue services found his body on October 3 in Blaydon.

A coroner opened an inquest into his death on October 4.

Following the tragedy, a family friend has set up a Just Giving page to support Craig’s family.

The story on the page reads: “I have known Michelle for around 25 years and have seen her inner strength shine through on many occasions.

“However, even Superwoman needs a helping hand from time to time. Please give a little to support Michelle and her children through this very difficult time.”

So far the page has attracted over £2,600 in generous donations, along with many heartfelt messages from supporters.
