THE village and the park looked stunning in the sunshine and the run up to the judging of Britain in bloom.

We are indebted to may volunteers for making everything so beautiful, not forgetting the litter-pickers.

The park is an excellent place to take children in the holidays, but keep them safe near the river.

If you are lucky you might catch brown trout or more probably tiddlers.

TOMORROW, Ponteland Lions will be holding their monthly bookstall outside Waitrose from 9am until 4pm.

You will be able to find some good holiday reading as well as contributing to good causes.

Also tomorrow, the Meanders walking group will be leaving the Methodist Church car park at 9.30am, and all are welcome.

PONTELAND Embroiderers’ Guild will meet on Monday, July 27, for a talk entitled A modern twist on traditional embroidery by Heather Waring from Stokesley, North Yorkshire.

FROM Monday, July 27, to Friday, July 31, Kirkley Hall is providing a summer zoo club for children aged nine to 15.

Activities include feeding lemurs, training cockatoos, and walking the Shetland pony.

FROM Tuesday, July 28, to Friday, July 31, there will be a holiday club at Stamfordham Village Hall, from 10am until noon for three to four-year-olds, and from 10am until 12.30pm, for five to 11-year-olds.

Activities include games, crafts, bible stories, and a daily challenge.

MANY groups take a holiday in August but the U3A, Ponteland Leisure Learning, will meet on Wednesday, August 5, at 2pm, in St Mary’s Church Hall.

Anthea Lang of Gateshead will be speaking on Death, disease and dastardly deeds, and all are welcome. Sounds interesting!

PONTELAND High School A Level music student Brent March has been presented with the prestigious award of Ponteland Young Musician of the Year by Mr S. Cox, president of the Ponteland Rotary Club.

Brent plays guitar in the high school’s jazz band, school concerts and productions, and is an active performer outside school.

He will be performing at the Rotary Club’s annual concert in October.
