A MAN has suffered serious injuries after colliding with an HGV on the A69.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the crash which took place in the early hours of Sunday.

Officers say that the white Dacia Sandero car travelled from Stamfordham Road to the A1 southbound before joining the A69.

The mini four-by-four vehicle was around one mile west of the exit slip road for Heddon-on-the-Wall when the crash took place shortly before 1am.

For reasons yet to be established the car collided with the rear of an articulated lorry which was parked in a lay-by off the A69.

Emergency services attended the scene and the driver of the Dacia car, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

The 64-year-old man was described as being in a serious but stable condition.

The road remained closed for over five hours with local diversions in place.

Northumbria Police are keen to speak with anyone who has seen the collision or has spotted the white Dacia car prior to the collision.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting reference number 63 of 19/02/17.
