A VILLAGE jumble sale this weekend could be the final push towards raising a mega £65,000 needed to transform Stamfordham's play park.

The jumble sale in Stamfordham Village Hall will take place from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, March 4.

The funds raised will be split between the Friends of Stamfordham Play Park project to revamp the run-down children's play area in the village, and a £160,000 project at St. Mary's Church for renovations.

Rev. Rachel Scheffer, a committee member for Friends of Stamfordham Play Park and vicar for Stamfordham and Matfen said: "As a village this could be the last fund-raiser for the play park as we are very nearly at the £65,000 needed, and should reach it if this goes well.

"We would love to start the work in spring for the nice weather arriving as young families in the village have nothing at the moment apart from a derelict play park.

"I am already amazed by the support we've had and by the number of people dropping things off. We'd really love people to come along and see what's on offer."

Items already awaiting sale include bikes, pieces of art, things for the garden, adults and children's clothes and lots of things suitable for young families and babies.

A local auctioneer plans to pick out items of value and auction them off at 12pm to inject some fun into the event.

There will be refreshments and lunches provided on the day in the West Room, by Friends of Stamfordham First School.
