THERE was a printing error in the date given for the Matfen village quiz night in last week’s village notes. The correct date is Friday, February 26, at 7.30pm. This is always a popular event, as the questions, set by quiz master Steve Gregory-Smith, cover a range of topics and appeal to those who just enjoy a fun night out in good company, but also to those who are more competitive! Teams should have a maximum of six people – you could get together your own team or join with others when you arrive. Purchase tickets from Matfen Village Store or by ringing Derek Padgett on (01661) 886785.

REGULAR activities in the village hall are keeping everyone busy and active. The table tennis club goes from strength to strength on Wednesdays, with coaching for juniors from 6.30pm to 7.45pm, followed by an adult (and juniors) session from 8pm to 10pm, with some coaching thrown in. The club has four teams in the Northumbria League and one team in the Tynedale League. New members are always very welcome.

The Zumba classes on a Thursday, from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, are very well attended and always lively.

Friday night is karate night which is a great way to get fit, have fun and learn self-defence. Andrew Waters runs the sessions which are open to all ages and start at 6.30pm.
