THOUSANDS joined the party atmosphere in Ponteland’s park for an afternoon of sunshine and games last weekend.

Organisers of Ponteland Party in the Park on Sunday celebrated record attendance for the annual event.

Over 3,000 people packed into the park to enjoy live music, stalls and attractions organised by the village’s Churches Together organisation.

Organiser Andy Anderson said: “Everyone was there; it was really busy. It was difficult to walk through the park as there was so many people there, so we are extremely pleased. It went very, very well - another record year!”

With a focus on families, young and old alike made the most of the day.

The Jill Errington School of Dance and Drama kicked off the afternoon with style after the party it was officially opened by visiting American pastor Bert Jicha.

Disney fans would also have done a double-take as girls from the school’s Taylor-Made Parties donned Disney Princess garb for the celebrations.

Popular attractions included an army climbing wall, archery, Punch and Judy show and a barbecue - which has proved a party favourite, running out of burgers for the second year running.

Ponteland Bowling Club also made a surprise appearance, finding space for a makeshift green for people to try their hand at the game.

Music also played a big part in the day, with Ponteland Community Band and Darras Hall First School choir entertaining happy crowds of onlookers.

Mr Anderson added: “We keep getting more attractions and adding to the event.

“We couldn’t do it without the help of the town council - it’s their park - and Newcastle international Airport who give a large donation.”

Any excess money raised at the event is donated to a number of local charities.
