AN award-winning Tynedale hotel has chosen its nominated charity for the next 12 months.

Matfen Hall Hotel has given its backing to Hexham-based Tynedale Hospice at Home, which provides free nursing care and transport for terminally ill patients, along with bereavement support for both adults and children.

Over the coming year, staff at the hotel, voted large hotel of the year at the 2015 VisitEngland Awards for Excellence, will embark on a variety of fund-raising activities on behalf of the charity.

And members of the hotel’s Aqua Vitae spa lost no time in giving them a helping hand.

Around 16 cyclists completed a 150-mile Matfen North circular ride over two days to raise £1,000 for the cause.

Matfen sales and marketing director Sarah Barber said: “The hospice does such incredible work, and all of it free of charge, for those that most need support in our local area.

“We are really excited to support the hospice as our nominated charity and are already thinking of ways in which we can raise funds for it.”

Hospice director Alison Hands added: “We rely heavily on the support of businesses in Tynedale and West Northumberland as we have to raise more then 90 per cent of our expenditure to provide free, local care.”
