AFTER nine weeks off due to bad weather, Heddon St Andrew’s football club returned to action last week, cruising through to the next round of the cup with a comfortable 6-0 away win to Hexham Hearts at Tyne Green. Well done lads!

OVER the years, the number of Heddon Ramblers has reduced considerably, meaning only 12 residents meet each month, including one of the walkers’ dogs. The socialising group would like to encourage more people to join them. Why not come and join in the fun on the first Sunday of each month at 9am in the car park behind Dingle Dell to convoy by car to the starting point? Anyone is welcome to join and are reminded to bring appropriate clothing and drinks. The average walk ranges from five to seven miles and last year walks have taken them to Tynemouth, Whitley Bay, Morpeth, Beamish and Allendale.

HEDDON Women’s Institute welcomes you to an early pancake day on Saturday, from 11.30am to 1pm. There will be a wide variety of savoury and sweet fillings, with a tray bake, and tea or coffee. There is always a raffle, a warm and cosy hall with a friendly atmosphere. Why not go along and enjoy a pancake and meet up with old and new friends?

LES Turnbull will be this month’s guest speaker on Monday at the history society, talking about the Heaton mining disaster of 1815. The meeting will commence at 7.30pm in the Methodist Chapel.
