TEAMS of golfers gathered for a friendly tournament in Heddon-on-the-Wall to help support the North East’s oldest children’s charity.

The teams of four from businesses around the North East took part in The Children North East Golf Day on Tuesday at Close House, one of the North East’s most challenging courses.

Playing alongside the corporate teams were teams made up of some of football heroes from the Sunderland ’73 FA Cup Winners and the Newcastle ’69 Fairs Cup Winners.

The tournament attracted golfers of all standards who played to support the charity in its 125th year of improving children’s lives across the region.

While old rivalries were ignited, the Sunderland team outshone the rest and went on to win the tournament.
