THE DUCHESS of Northumberland praised the thoughtful ethos behind a luxury Ponteland care home at its official opening.

Luxury assisted living scheme The Royal Hampton was officially opened by the Duchess at Meadowfield – a former cattle auction site. The facility has already welcomed its first residents and can accommodate up to 73 people.

Developer Crown Care says that the facility is designed to enhance the independent lifestyle of residents.

During an hour-long tour of The Royal Hampton, the Duchess met and spoke with both residents and staff.

She said: “I have been so impressed by what I have seen. All the touches around the home are wonderful. There is nothing they haven’t thought about.”

The Royal Hampton employs professional beauticians and therapists who offer spa treatments, manicures, pedicures, massages and facials.

The Shakespearean Restaurant provides meals for residents, or they can book tables to dine with family and friends. And residents and visitors alike are welcome at the Dickens bistro which features an a la carte menu and licensed bar.

There is also a library, with internet café, a quiet lounge, a social TV room and free wi-fi access throughout.

Michael Ladhar, a director of Crown Care, said: “The Royal Hampton really is a care home with the wow factor – it is the jewel in our crown.

“We are confident we have met our aspiration to deliver the best quality environment the region has to offer while providing the highest possible standards of care to ensure those who come to live here or stay with us for a short time get the care, attention and lifestyle they deserve.

“It is close to the town centre and we have strong links with a number of local groups to ensure our residents will be very much part of the community.”
