CYCLISTS are being called upon to take part in a bike ride to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown’s birth.

People who love recreational cycling are invited to the bike ride on Sunday, August 7.

From 10.30am, riders will take on a 29-mile route, starting and finishing at Capability’s birthplace in Kirkharle, devised by professional cycling events organiser, Peter Harrison.

It will take riders from Kirkharle Courtyard to Scots Gap past Bolam Lake and Rothley Lake before returning to Kirkharle via Capheaton.

Peter explained: “This is an event where anyone can take part and we want to attract everyone who enjoys an evening or weekend cycle with family and friends to enjoy the fresh air of the countryside.

“The 29-miler takes a route round a landscape inspired by Capability Brown and includes his daily five-mile route from Kirkharle to his school in Cambo.

“With the increased popularity of the sport, I particularly hope parents will bring their youngsters along.

“Children under 12 are very welcome as long as they are accompanied by a responsible adult and of course, everyone must wear a protective helmet.”

Participants are asked to gather in the east car park of Kirkharle Courtyard.

Entry is free and forms can be downloaded from www.kirkharlecourtyard.co.uk.
