NORTHUMBERLAND College’s Kirkley Hall Campus could be set for a major expansion.

The college has put forward a planning application which could see Kirkley Hall campus, near Ponteland, expand on its already growing equestrian facilities.

The application outlines plans to demolish the existing equestrian facility and associated classroom and to construct new indoor and outdoor arenas, classrooms, office, stables and car park.

The application proposes to increase the number of car parking spaces from 12 to 25 to meet demand.

Plans include the construction of an office, kitchen and toilets, a feed store, an arena with judges’ enclosure, stables, a solarium, a jump store and hay store.

The proposed site covers an area of 9,100 square metres.

If the application was granted and plans were to go ahead, this would be a major development for the services on offer at Kirkley Hall.

The campus already boasts the award-winning Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens which attracts around 70,000 visitors per year.
