A PONTELAND woman has been forced to cancel a charity cycle challenge after she broke her arm avoiding a collision with a car.

Angela Cohen-Clark had to jump from her bike when she was almost struck by a car in Ogle, near Belsay, earlier this month.

Her arm was broken in the incident, preventing her from taking part in a charity cycle ride from London to Paris in aid of the Anthony Nolan Trust.

She was due to set off on the 300-mile challenge on Wednesday, alongside friends Alli Dufosee and Sallie Taylor.

Alli’s husband, Sean, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, and underwent a life-saving bone marrow transplant courtesy of the Anthony Nolan Trust.

Angela said: “I am devastated to have trained so hard and for so long to now find that I am unable to compete in such an important fund-raising bike ride to Paris because of this accident.

“The Anthony Nolan fund was to receive a substantial donation. However, I am still seeking donations through the Just Giving web site.”

Police are investigating the incident which involved a light green Aston Martin.

The car did not stop at the scene and officers are keen for the driver to get in contact.

East Tynedale Neighbourhood Inspector Julie Cole said: “It may be the driver wasn’t aware of what happened, or that the cyclist was injured.”

It is believed the vehicle’s registration number contain the digits F and nine.

Witnesses are asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191, quoting reference 895 120615.
