ALTHOUGH missing out on the main awards, Tynedale businesses still did well in the prestigious North-East Tourism Awards.

The Calvert Trust at Kielder picked up a silver medal in the tourism for all section, and a bronze in the overall tourism experience.

There was a silver for Langley Castle in the small hotel category, and another silver for Southlands Farm Cottages at Gunnerton in the self-catering/serviced apartment section.

Also striking silver in the sustainable tourism category was the Battlesteads Hotel at Wark.

There were bronze medals for Heathergate Country Park and Blue Sky Resorts, at Lowgate, in the caravan/holiday park section, and for Belsay Hall castle and gardens in the large visitor attraction category.
