Driver arrested

A MOTORIST who crashed into a police car has been charged with drink-driving.
The 42-year-old man will appear at Tynedale Magistrates’ Court later this month.
He was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after his Vauxhall Vectra collided with a marked patrol car on Shaftoe Leazes, Hexham.
It is believed he was overtaking the police car which had come to a stop on the road to allow oncoming traffic to pass safely.
The police officer suffered whiplash injuries and was taken to Hexham General Hospital. A Northumbria force spokesman said the officer was discharged after treatment.
The driver of a third vehicle involved in the collision was not injured.
