Big break: Eleanor (left), Katie and Matthew Valentine are all set for Paris contest.

Matthew (15), Katie (14) and Eleanor (12), of Ratcliffe Road, have been chosen to represent the North-East in a talent competition at Disneyland Paris, next month.

The trio will try and impress the judges of AMTC (Actors, Models and Talent Contest) Europe 2008 at a six-day convention starting on November 18.

And their parents could not be prouder of their achievements.

Mother Gill said: “Out of the 700 people auditioned, eight from the region are going to Paris and three are mine, which is deeply scary. I am so proud.

“It is a fantastic opportunity and I have told the children it should be viewed as an adventure.”

Being selected to represent the region came about through a stroke of luck.

Katie had applied for an audition with Hexham actor Rob Earnshaw, who is the North-East’s AMTC casting director.

On the scheduled day of the audition she was unable to make it, but Mr Earnshaw went to the family home in Haydon Bridge.

After auditioning Katie, he asked the other two youngsters to audition and was impressed with what he saw.

Mrs Valentine said: “He came here just to audition Katie but he said that he wanted to take all of them.”

However, the family need to raise around £6,000 to fund the trip to France.

They are organising numerous fund-raising events, with a variety night planned at Haydon Bridge Community Centre on October 11 being one of the highlights.
