IT CERTAINLY rained on Elsdon Fête last Monday afternoon, but it didn’t seem to spoil the fun. All of the stalls were moved from their usual places around the green and into St Cuthbert’s Church.THE next in the successful series of domino drives at Rochester village hall will be held on Friday, September 12, at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome.
The church was full at 2pm for the start of the fête and all the stalls, which included cakes, books, a raffle and tombola, were soon doing brisk business. Teas were also served in the church.
Congratulations to all concerned in organising the fête and thanks to everyone who turned out on such a wet day to support the event. I’m sure it was a great financial success and I hope to have details in these notes next week.
MANY of you will know that Robert White, one of our Upper Rede valley postmen for the last 18 years, retired last weekend. A collection in the valley for Robert raised a remarkable £420.
This was presented to him at his retirement party last Sunday in the presence of his family and close friends. The two organisers of the collection have asked me to thank everyone who made contributions.
