Slaley news

THERE have been many compliments made about the 149th Slaley Show from near and far afield. They range from the beautiful work in the industrial tent to the great team of the five tractor drivers who got everyone off the field.

There was a real Dunkirk spirit around last Saturday. The show needs all the help it can get – honestly it is fun, and needs only take as much time as you can spare.
We will need more help next year as it’s the 150th show. A message from Vicki (who is still getting mud off her boots): many thanks to the yellow vested team for your help, but could the said yellow vests head back to Vicki as they need to be accounted for and used in 2009.
Unfortunately there is a problem that has to be mentioned. Somebody thought it was acceptable to use the outside of one of the tents as a toilet, probably over the weekend.
Human faeces was left on two panels and this has resulted in the show facing a bill of over £200 for damages. It is a sad state of affairs – let us hope such a thing never happens again.

THE gardening group’s September meeting is on Sunday, September 7. Please note the date change: this is because the group will be visiting Halls of Heddon nursery at Heddon to see their dahlia and chrysanthemums in particular.
Nigel Green will need numbers as soon as possible, but Tuesday, August 26, is a cut-off date. Nigel’s number is (01434) 673210. As usual meet at the Commemoration Hall by 2pm, where lifts can be arranged.

HEALEY church fete has been cancelled for a number of reasons, but there will be a harvest supper on October 17 at Snods Edge. More details later.

NEXT week’s medicine run volunteer is L. Allsop.
