Big film break for youngsters

YOUNG people in Tynedale could become the next stars of MTV.

West Northumberland Youth Project, together with MTV Boom Project, have set up a scheme to get youngsters in the area involved in making and starring in short film clips that could appear on the television channel.

The group of young people will be trained how to make films and will star in two – five minutes stories about issues that interest and are relevant to them.

They are committed to making 20 films over a six-month period and are encouraging people aged 13 to 19 throughout the area to participate.

Youth worker Jim Storey said: “I think it gives young people a chance to get their views and opinions known.

“We are giving them technical support but, at the end of the day, the films are about what they want to make them about.”

The film equipment is being provided by Boom Project. Anybody interested in taking part in the scheme can contact Mr Storey on 07796 232113.
