HALTWHISTLE Carnival is in full swing – and the best is yet to come.
Despite the duck race last weekend having to be postponed due to too much water in the river, the children’s party went ahead as planned and was a huge success.
There was karaoke and face-painting, and a feast of burgers and fizzy drinks, which everyone enjoyed.
Monday’s treasure hunt involved 120 people, all of whom returned from their missions in time for the evening’s pie and peas supper at the civic hall.
The main event, the big parade, takes place on Sunday at noon, starting at the fire station.
It will take an hour or so to wend its way down to the carnival field, going along Main Street, down Lanty’s Lonnen, along Front Road and over the bridge to the show field.
Those taking part are vying for prizes of best costume and best float, so there will be plenty to see.
Throughout the day there will be a curious mix of events, from a ‘Hillbilly Western’ act with knife throwing and lasso tricks, through local choirs and brass bands, to the exciting Polly and Jolly’s Comedy Car act.
A particular highlight will be the Cumberland and Westmorland wrest-ling, including the under 18 world championships.
Exhibitors should arrive on the carnival field no later than 11am, while spectators should get to Haltwhistle in time for the parade at noon, and enjoy the day from then on.
