THE Acomb wives’ group joined the Women’s Institute at its meeting last Wednesday. Together they enjoyed a talk about the history of Waitrose supermarket and its charitable foundation.JUDGING has taken place for Acomb in Bloom. The judges said they were very pleased with what they saw, and the winners will be announced later next month.MEMBERS of St John Lee, Warden with Newbrough and Haltwhistle parishes spent last Saturday at Alnmouth Friary for the annual parish quiet day.PARISH council members will make a site visit to Chapel Close on Wednesday, September 3, at the start of its meeting. Residents of the close have expressed concern about trees blocking the road. The matter will then be discussed at the meeting. THE embroiderers’ guild has booked the village hall this weekend for a workshop with an African theme. Members will create new art works during the weekend, and anyone interested is invited to drop in between 10am and 4pm tomorrow or Sunday to have a look. The guild welcomes new members.
