A HEXHAM teenager hosted an end of exams party with a difference, booking a Glastonbury band to play in her parents’ back garden.

Indie-folk four piece Wildflowers entertained Ailis Lord and her friends with an acoustic set on the lawn of her Hexham home on Monday evening.

The Bristol-based band have set themselves the challenge of touring their way from Scotland to Glastonbury, where they will be taking to the stage on Saturday.

Setting off from Loch Lomond on Sunday in a trusty campervan and with just £100 in their pockets, the band will play a gig for each day of their ‘freewheeling tour.’

The location of each performance was left up to their fans and with the second stop billed as the Carlisle area, 16-year-old Ailis decided to throw her hat into the ring.

The Queen Elizabeth High School student, who has been a fan of the band for the last two years, said: “I thought that Carlisle wasn’t far from us so I put my entry in.

“I didn’t think anything of it until they rang to say we’ll play in your garden.”

So just hours after sitting her final GCSE exam, Ailis and 13 of her friends were celebrating the end of their exams with an internationally acclaimed band.

Wildflowers, made up of Kit and Siddy Bennet, James Ashbury and Kendal Sant, played a half hour set before spending the evening chatting and gossiping with the teenagers.

Ailis said: “They stayed and had soup with my mum in our front room, which was surreal really.

“It was a great night, everyone really enjoyed themselves and it was great to meet the band in person. They’re the loveliest people.”

The band left for Kendal and will go on to Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol before arriving in Glastonbury.
