A PAIR of Slaley stalwarts have received recognition for their five decades of service to the village.
Margaret and Roy Ward have retired after running Slaley Village Shop for over 50 years, taking it over from Roy’s parents.
At a small ceremony, Slaley Parish Council presented the couple with a garden seat, with a plaque reading: “To Roy and Margaret with grateful thanks from the parish of Slaley.” The couple were also treated to a meal at the Lord Crewe Arms.
A co-operative society, Slaley Community Shop Ltd, has now been formed to run the shop.
