TOMORROW will see St Mary’s Christmas Fair taking place in the Commemoration Hall from 10.30am until 1pm.

Along with handicrafts, home-made cakes and preserves, cards, gifts and raffles, there will be coffee and more cake, and the first performance by the Slaley Singers. Any items of baking can be brought to the hall on the day.

ON Sunday at 7pm it is the leek club’s AGM at the Rose and Crown. Come along and celebrate or commiserate, depending on how it went for you. It’s also a chance for those interested in joining to find out more.

Cash, or at least a cheque, will be given out to those whose leeks made the grade.

ON Monday, the Land’s End to John O’Groats vintage car rally is coming through Slaley, so give them a wave.

FIONA McKendrick has organised a wreath making evening on Monday from 7pm, with proceeds to the Crawford House parents’ accommodation at the RVI. Contact Fiona on 07817 993767 if you would like to come along.

HOPEFULLY by this weekend the Christmas lights will have been turned on at the Jewitts, who live over the road from me.

This will definitely help Santa find his way to Slaley, and I have been told that he will probably be passing through on his sleigh at around 6pm on Monday, December 14.

Tynedale Lions and Hexham and Stocksfield Scouts will be lending a hand.

IAN Hancock’s recent talk on Ladycross Nature Reserve was excellent and was very well attended, with about £200 being raised for the reserve.

An extra date in the Ladycross calendar of events is a talk by Eddie Douglas, on Thursday, January 21, on the Texas Spring Migration.

FINALLY, the medicine run volunteer for the next fortnight is B. Johnston.
