TRADE retailer Screwfix has announced plans to open a new store in Hexham, creating 11 new jobs.

The unit, on the town’s Bridge End Industrial Estate, will open its doors next Thursday giving a new base for tradespeople and DIYers off the A69.

From tools and workwear to decorating essentials, the business is known for offering a range of supplies and already has bases in Newcastle, Gateshead and Consett.

Screwfix’s new Hexham store manager, Nick Zinonos, said: “We’ve created 11 new jobs and employed people from around the Hexham area.

“Our new team includes people with all different levels of experience, focused on providing superb customer service to meet the needs of our busy trade customers.

“Everyone here is really looking forward to the store opening.”

Special promotions and competitions will run during the store’s opening weekend with demonstrations of the latest power tools from top names such as DeWalt planned.

Mr Zinonos believes the store’s convenient location, click collect service and seven days a week opening hours will be a hit with local people and businesses alike.

“I’m confident we’ve got a great location here in Hexham.” he said.

“My team and I have already been getting to know local businesses and tradespeople and look forward to working with them.”

Last year, as turnover grew to £1bn, owners of Screwfix, the Kingfisher Group, announced plans to increase the number of outlets from 457 to 600, including in Germany.
