Tesco spokesman Mark Thomas said the Alemouth Road store endured a power cut and power surge at around 1.30pm.
A back-up battery supply was used to keep checkouts operating for as long as possible, but the store closed its doors at about 2.30pm.
Mr Thomas said: “We have worked hard to rectify the problem and opened as normal to serve customers on Monday morning.”
It is understood that the power cut was an internal issue at the Tesco store.
