VANDALS have targeted a car parked in Wentworth car park and caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage.

The car’s owner, Sarah Newton, posted pictures of the damage on Facebook, and her post has been shared over 230 times.

Sarah said: “My windows were smashed in, the car had scratches all over and what looks like a foot mark dint in the back door.

“Nothing is missing from my car and there is no sign that they were trying to steal it. I’ve had quite a few people approach me saying the same has happened to them”Hopefully we can persuade the council to add cameras in different places so we can all feel a little safer. More CCTV could stop it happening to more people in the future.

“It’s happening all the time and people don’t bother reporting to the police because they don’t do anything about it.

“The police have been lovely over the phone but other than that they just leave it to you to sort yourself.”

Sarah has lost some of her no-claims bonus and had to pay a large excess as a result of the attacks.

Northumbria Police have been informed and are appealing for information. A spokeswoman said: “At about 6pm on Tuesday, April 3, police received a report that a car had been damaged while parked in Wentworth carpark, Hexham.

“The car, a Toyota Aygo, sustained damage to doors and a broken window. The neighbourhood police teams will be carrying out inquiries and anyone with concerns should contact us.”
