HEXHAM nursery is celebrating after maintaining its “outstanding” rating with Ofsted.

Kids 1st, on Maidens Walk, in Hexham, was given the highest possible judgement in the four key areas of effectiveness of leadership and management; quality of teaching, learning and assessment; personal development, behaviour and welfare and outcomes for children.

“All children make excellent progress from where they start in their learning, including those who receive funded early education,” the report, prepared by inspector Janice Caryl, states.

“They are exceptionally well prepared for school. Children are confident communicators and resourceful and resilient learners.”

The report, published recently following an inspection on May 27, pays tribute to the “well qualified and experienced staff team” who work hard to plan “a wealth of innovative, exciting and challenging activities” for children.

It also highlights the “clear vision” of leaders and managers, who work well together with parents.

The nursery, which opened in 2006 and employs 27 staff, is described as “a rich, homely environment with a range of sensory experiences that are provided to enhance children’s learning”.

The only area identified for improvement was to enhance systems for tracking and monitoring children’s learning and development.

Nursery manager Sarah Scandle said she was thrilled with the outcome of the inspection.
