A POLICE investigation is under way after thieves used a baby’s pram to smuggle stolen goods out of a Hexham store.

The thieves struck at the Sainsbury’s Local store at Hexham’s Bridge End service station.

At around 5.45pm on Saturday, February 11 a man, woman and teenage boy entered the store.

They took several items of meat and cheese which they put in bags, some of which were stored under a baby’s pram.

The group then left the store without paying for the items.

Northumbria Police are now investigating the shoplifting incident and are reviewing the CCTV footage from the store.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting reference number 703 of 13/02/17 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
