PLANS have been submitted to convert a former bakery on Hexham’s Haugh Lane industrial estate into a care centre for dementia sufferers.

Bluebird House has been vacant since cake manufacturers the Pudding Parlour moved to the town centre, but Newcastle-based charity the Bradbury Centre wishes to develop it as a day centre.

Bluebird House has had many uses over the years, including that of laboratory, children’s day nursery and car service and repair centre, before becoming a bakery.

In support of the application, the Bradbury Centre says the rent is affordable for the charity, and its central location provides easy transport access for clients and staff.

Amenities are located nearby, and parking is available on site.
