Charity Sustrans has drawn up the ideas, in partnership with Northumberland County Council and Hexham Town Council, following public events and online discussions held last year. Sustrans also carried out transport surveys to understand traffic patterns and pedestrian movement in the town centre.
The data and comments led to four design options on how the market place could be rearranged. The next stage of the project is to take these back to people in Hexham and continue the discussion about the changes.
The plans are due to be launched on the project website hexhammarket place.stickyworld.com today and designers will be attending market days and hosting stalls on June 24 and July 1.
