A FILM by a Hexham-based charity, which aims to teach young people about the dangers of emotional abuse, has won three international awards since its launch in February.

The campaign, named Control, was launched on Valentine’s Day by the Northumberland Domestic Abuse Service (NDAS) and aimed to change the way people see and understand emotional abuse, encouraging them to rethink their own situation or that of those around them.

The film was produced by London-based Raw Productions as part of its charity initiative, and has been viewed over 350,000 times online.

Earlier this year, at the EVCOM Screen and EVCOM Clarion Awards, run by the Event and Visual Communication Association, NDAS scooped the gold award in the charity and not-for-profit categories.

And in the Summit Creative Awards, NDAS was named the gold winner in the not-for-profit video category, which had more than 5,000 submissions from 24 countries.

On top of this, the campaign also won Partnership of the Year at NE Youth 2017.

Ryan Wilkins, founder & CEO of Raw London, said: “We have been completely overwhelmed by the response to this film.

“We always knew we wanted to do something different and NDAS’ amazing staff and work allowed us to do that.

“We even recently screened the film at the International Fund-raising Congress in Bangkok, inspiring small charities in Asia to be brave and try something different.”

NDAS has also been approached by teachers to use the film as part of Domestic Abuse Awareness month in schools.
