RESIDENTS in Hexham still have a few weeks left to find out more about proposed new signage.

Hexham Business Improvement District (BID) recently hosted a drop-in event at the Queen’s Hall to showcase plans to upgrade and improve signs in and around the town.

The BID board team said signage had been one of the biggest priorities since the initiative was established last year, and the findings of a study carried out by local firm Differentia were unveiled at the open day.

Visitors were given the chance to view the plans, speak to designer Steve Pardue and give feedback. The plans have now moved to the Wentworth Leisure Centre where they will be available to view until the end of October, with the opportunity for people living and working in the town to submit comments.

“It was a successful day, and we received some very good feedback on the quality of the design, the way it respected Hexham’s heritage and which areas we propose to cover,” said Helen Grayshan, manager at Hexham BID.

“Some changes have been made after comments received from businesses on Bridge End and Tyne Mills Industrial Estates, and a revised scheme for those areas is now in development and will be published shortly.”

Once the final feedback has been received, the BID team will begin discussing timescales for specific areas.

“We are now in talks with the planning and highways departments about applications for the new sites, as well as removing the clutter of out of date and damaged signs,” added Helen.

“The aim of the whole project is to make sure the town is easy to navigate, with a view to attracting more tourists and helping grow Hexham into an even more thriving area.”
