ONE of Hexham’s key links to the A69 with be closed for five days next week for resurfacing work.

Highways staff from Northumberland County Council will be working to repair an 800 metre stretch of West Road, at its junction with the A69, starting on Monday. The work is expected to be completed by Friday, with the road closed between 7am and 5pm each day next week.

Ward councillor Derek Kennedy says the work is long overdue.

Mr Kennedy said: “The road will be closed, so drivers will not be able to join the A69 at the West Road junction for this limited time.

“I have been campaigning for this very busy road to be repaired for some time.

“The closure is needed for safety reasons and will allow the highways staff to make the repairs as soon as possible.

“An alternative route is travel to the A69 roundabout at Rotary Way.”
