THE Northumberland chapter of the Widows Sons Masonic Bikers Association has donated trikes worth £800 to a Hexham school.

The large, three-wheeled bikes are perfect for older youngsters at Hexham Priory School, which supports children with multiple learning difficulties.

Ian Noble, from Prudhoe, who is a member of the group for motorcycle-riding Freemasons, said: “Members visit several schools across the North-East and distribute a van full of Easter eggs every year.

“We weren’t able to add Priory School on to that route in time, but had some surplus funds which we thought they would be able to put to good use.”

Ian, whose sons Nathan (7) and Daniel (8) both attend the school, spoke to headteacher Mike Thompson to find out what kind of donation would help.

“The school caters for children up to the age of 19 and Mike said a large trike, for use outdoors by some of the older children, was something they were missing.”

Members travelled from as far afield as Durham and Alnwick last Friday to present the school with two of the trikes, worth around £400 each.

Ian added: “It was a great turn-out and lovely to see the kids enjoying the trikes.”
