A PAIR of artists hope to draw culture lovers into Hexham with a colourful new market.

For the last five weeks, Anne Collier and Louis Liddle have transformed the black wrought-iron railings of the town centre into a colourful vista of art and invention.

Every Sunday the pair hang art works on the railings at the entrance of The Sele on Beaumont Street.

Louis and Anne hope to turn their small tradepost into a bustling weekly arts market, similar to the market on Armstrong Bridge in Jesmond.

Anne, who runs Colliers Framing in Acomb, said: “I started my business in 1975 on the Sunday arts market on Armstrong Bridge in Jesmond.

“Louis also worked on Armstrong Bridge in the 1970s and early 1980s.”

After discussing their new venture with the relevant authorities, Anne and Louis set up stall on Beaumont Street last month.

Now they are appealing for other artists to get involved and help grow their budding market into a bustling artists’ quarter.
