More than 60 artists have contributed 80 photographs, paintings, prints and textile pieces to the Art with Heart project launched by Hexham’s Queen’s Hall Arts.
A handful of pictures have proved early favourites, said development manager Sharon West, but with another week left of the auction, people still had plenty of time to get their bids in.
“We’ve had £5,000 in bids and donations so far, which will be doubled thanks to the fund matching we are receiving from the Arts Council.
“We are expecting lots of bids to come in next week, but we’re delighted to have already had a bid of £2,000 for the Anthony Gormley preparatory study and bids of more than £100 for pictures by four local artists.”
The money raised will pay for the new project that harnesses the therapeutic benefits of arts and crafts to help bereaved children.
The auction closes on Thursday September 28 at 9pm.
