Money raised from the appeal will go to the Royal British Legion, which does life-changing welfare work to support veterans and their families.
Tom Gillanders, the Poppy Appeal organiser for Hexham, said: “As usual people will spot volunteers out on the streets and in shops selling their poppies. These people give up their time to raise money for the cause.
“Many shops also keep a poppy box and collecting can on their counter so customers can make their own donation.
“The people of Hexham have always been very generous and last year they donated nearly £17,000.
“The poppy appeal runs for only two weeks and we are always ready to welcome any new volunteers, as well as any donations. It’s a very important cause because it is a major supporter for the families of soldiers.”
The Royal British Legion was founded by veterans after the First World War in order to help those returning with both physical and mental injuries as well as their families.
